One of our dear faculty members, Sandhya Kadam, who taught economics at MUWCI, recently passed away, leaving many of us without a chance to express our gratitude and love for her as a teacher and colleague. In honour of her memory, members of the faculty and staff have shared their reflections in both prose and poetry — a testament to how deeply she touched our community. Sandhya will always remain a part of MUWCI’s story, her spirit continuing to guide and inspire us.
Sandhya was a cherished part of the MUWCI community for many years, and her warmth, wisdom, and unwavering care left a lasting imprint on the lives of countless students and colleagues. Sandhya had recently stepped away from her full-time teaching and mentoring responsibilities to focus on her health and well-being. We had all hoped for her full recovery and looked forward to welcoming her back with the same energy and optimism she was known for. Her passing leaves a deep void in our community and in our hearts. Known for her quiet strength and kindness, Sandhya was a teacher, mentor, and friend who inspired students not only in their studies but also in how to live with compassion and grace. She had an extraordinary ability to listen, support, and guide, offering a steady presence for those who needed it most. For many of her colleagues, she was a grounding force in the faculty — a source of balance and positivity even during challenging times. As we remember Sandhya, we also hold her children in our thoughts and prayers. We can only imagine the depth of their grief during this difficult period and hope they find comfort in the knowledge that Sandhya’s legacy lives on in the lives she touched.
Made my buddy when I first came to stay, You became a true friend in every way. From MUWCI’s hill to Pune roads, Through Balewadi Street and salons we’d go. We sang our hearts out in abandoned glee, Etching memories that will always be. You spoke the truth, without disguise, And saw my heart through knowing eyes. Now as you take your final rest, I hold our memories, the happiest and best. May peace and light be yours to keep, My dearest friend, sleep gentle, sleep deep.
Writing a tribute for Ms. Sandhya is not easy, as she was more than a colleague to many of us. She was an experienced and dedicated economics teacher; she was also a friend, mentor, and guiding presence. Her warmth and caring nature often felt like that of an elder sister, offering comfort and support in both professional and personal moments. Her passing, after a prolonged illness, has deeply saddened us all. We pray for her soul to rest in peace and for her family to find strength and courage in this difficult time.
We first met through a glowing screen, two new faces, miles between. Yet even then, you shone so clear— warm and kind, with humor near. You were the kind who made things light, with honesty, with heart so bright. What-you-see-is-what-you-get, a gift in you I won’t forget. On winding roads, on India’s days, you guided gently, in your ways. With every word, with care you’d give, you showed me how the heart can live. You spoke with pride of son and daughter, your love for them ran deep as water. And when I longed for home so dear, you brought me maize, you brought me cheer. Even in mutton, laughter grew, you showed me joy in something new. In little acts, so kind, so true, you left behind a light that grew. Sandhya, though your steps are gone, your spirit, love, and care live on. And in our hearts, you’ll always stay, a gentle guide along the way.
Sandhya was among the first to welcome me with warmth when I arrived at MUWCI, and from the very beginning I felt a deep connection with her. I will always remember her kindness, her openness, and the way she made everyone feel included in our community. The world truly needs more people like her. Wherever she is now, I hope she knows that her memory will always remain in my heart.
Though my interactions with Sandhya were brief, the news of her passing has left me deeply shaken. It is hard to imagine that we will no longer experience her vivacious personality, her warm smile, her lighthearted humour, and the positivity she carried into every room. Sandhya may no longer be with us in person, but her spirit will always remain close. Her absence leaves a lasting mark – a reminder of the strength, warmth, and joy she shared so generously with those around her. Her presence had a way of brightening even the most ordinary moments, and her memory will continue to do the same. My thoughts and prayers are with her children, and I hope they find comfort in knowing that she will always be their guardian angel, watching over them with endless love from above. Sandhya, I am grateful that our paths crossed, even if only for a short while. Thank you for allowing your life to touch mine in such a meaningful way. Whenever I look up at the night sky, I will think of you as one of the brightest stars, shining endlessly…
Sandhya and I connected instantly after the day she asked me about my origin. Just like most other people, I was thrilled to find someone who speaks my mother tongue, even though we rarely talked to each other in it. I suppose it was sufficient to know that we could. I would often meet her in the cafeteria over breakfast or lunch, when we would chat about anything and everything under the sun. Sandhya was always keen to hear interesting stories and gossip. She winked a lot, encouraged me not to overthink, and made sure to enjoy every moment of life. She also had the sweetest, mischievous smile I have ever seen. To me, Sandhya was like an incredibly affectionate aunt who showers you with gifts and acts of kindness. Her cheerfulness, warmth, and invaluable advice on what it means to live a carefree life truly, will stay with me.
Sandhya Kadam was a beloved economics teacher, mentor, and colleague whose kindness, wisdom, and compassion left a lasting impact on the MUWCI community.
